My Dedication

For my cousin, Tia—this book carries your name, but your spirit carries me.

We were just two little girls growing up in New Orleans, soaking up the sounds of second lines, watching the Baby Dolls and Mardi Gras Indians with wide eyes, and falling in love with the culture that surrounded us. You were more than my cousin—you were my first best friend. We shared laughs, secrets, and sidewalk memories that I still carry with me.

Losing you left a space in my heart that can never be filled, but through this story, I honor the light you brought into my life. Every page is a reflection of the joy we knew, the streets we walked, and the spirit of a city that raised us.

You were part of my story then—and now, through these pages, you’ll forever be part of the magic of New Orleans.

Authors Inspiration

Tia’s First Super Sunday was written from a deep love for New Orleans and the traditions that continue to shape us.

As a Baby Doll, culture bearer, mother, and proud New Orleanian, I wanted to create something lasting that introduces children everywhere to the beauty, power, and spirit of our culture. This book shines a light on the Baby Doll tradition, a vital and often overlooked part of New Orleans rooted in strength, sisterhood, resistance, and joy.

The Creole Cuties, my all-youth Baby Doll group, are the heartbeat of this story. Their energy and sisterhood remind us that tradition is alive and evolving in the hands of our youngest culture keepers.

This book is also driven by love for my sons, who helped me find my voice and purpose within this legacy.

My hope is that every child who reads this story knows they belong to something magical.
